Even for a novella, it's a lot of words leading up to one thing: the characters that we create forever remain locked in their rooms until we decide we want to play with them again. I suppose, if I must stretch my thinking, I can draw an analogy to how people--far too many people these days--do the same by refusing to explore that door to see whether it's locked, or not.
